Dreaming Infinite

Civilizations from the past show this kind of long term thinking in artifacts like cathedrals, pyramids and temples. They are vessels that are not only built to withstand the test of time, but take ideas to the future. It feels like these people had something that they wanted to tell us. When we experience these artifacts in our current time, we get confronted with an existential sense of temporality. To quote film director and explorer Werner Herzog when he talks about the artists who created cave paintings 30.000 years ago: “We are locked in history and they were not”. (Cave of Forgotten Dreams) What are the ideas that we want to bring into the future? What is it that defines our current time, that we don’t want to get lost in history? We can sit in a chair and think hard about this, but as a New Media artist I also believe that the answer is hidden in the practice of making and creating. “Dreaming Infinite” challenges us to do this.
